Graphite infused latex is easy to spot in a stack of components. It has a dark charcoal color where standard natural latex is pale. The difference is not only visual: buyers specify it when they want a comfort layer with a cooler feel.

This article explains what graphite infused latex is, what the graphite is there to do, and when it makes sense to use it in a mattress or topper range.

What Graphite Infused Latex Is

Graphite infused latex combines our natural Dunlop latex with graphite, designed to help draw heat away from the material. It starts from the same Dunlop latex as the rest of our range, with the same open cell structure and pinholes that let air move through the material.

It is specified the same way as our other latex: by ILD, thickness and size. It is supplied to order in your specified ILD and thickness, so each order is built to the same specification as the last.

What the Graphite Does

The graphite is designed to help draw heat away from the material, which is why buyers choose graphite infused latex for comfort layers where a cooler feel is wanted. How the finished mattress feels also depends on the cover and the other layers, so it is worth judging a graphite layer as part of the full build.

When to Use It

As a comfort layer. Graphite infused latex is a comfort-layer option for buyers wanting a cooler feel. Comfort layers sit at the top of the build, closest to the sleeper, which is where that feel is usually wanted. For guidance on which ILD suits a comfort layer, see Choosing Firmness for What You Are Building.

To set one model apart. For brands with several models, a graphite comfort layer is a clear point of difference between two mattresses that otherwise share the same Dunlop latex underneath.

For an extra soft feel in Dunlop. At D55, our graphite infused Dunlop latex gives an extra soft feel, closer to what a D45 to D50 would normally feel like, at ILD 12 to 20. Our soft latex page covers this grade in more detail.

How to Specify It

When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  1. Which layer it is for, for example the top comfort layer of a mattress, or a topper.
  2. The ILD, as a number from the scale above.
  3. The thickness and size.
  4. What sits underneath it, so the layer can be judged as part of the full build.
  5. The quantity.

Graphite infused latex is supplied to order rather than held in US warehouse stock, so we confirm lead time with your quote. The best way to judge it is beside standard latex of the same ILD, so consider requesting a free sample kit first. Our FAQ page answers common questions on order size, lead time and shipping.
